It depends what shift i work and what day i work. weekends are slightly different then weekdays. but there are a few things that always happen no matter when i work. I always have to make meals for and feed the dogs. usually have anywhere from 20-45 dogs a day. the dogs are always outside in the yard unless they are eating, it is too cold, too hot or raining/other inclement weather. So one or two people (depending on the number of dogs) must be outside in the yard at all times. there is the big dog side and the small dog side. The dogs are also seperated by temperment. anyway if u work the morning shift u have to make lunch and breakfast. if u work the afternoon shift u only have to make dinner. Sometimes the morning people make it for u anyway. Whenever the dogs eat they are brought in and sit in their crates for a 1/2hr-1hr. before and after there meal to calm down. If u work the morning shift u get off at 2:30 and 3:30 so after the dogs finish lunch u bring them outside and just sit with them until that time. When u work the afternoon shift. after dinner (around 6) you bring them out for an hour or so and let them do their business and run around for a bit before u bring them in for the night(7-7:15). Once u get all of them in their crates you have to clean the place. hopefully we are able to clean during the afternoon. so that it is not all left for after the dogs go to bed. anyway all the floors in the building must be swept + mopped. dishes must be done (usually a few times a day) water buckets must be brought in and washed. and the in the big and small dog rooms inside must be wiped clean with bleach. The manager(s) must do the cash out for the day. and balance the draw. while you are outside your duties are to keep the water buckets clean, cold and filled some of the dogs make this very difficult. Also you must poop scoop the yard on a regular basis. (I do what i call poop scans) Also you must make sure the dogs don't get into fights. Most of the time the best way to do this is too play with them. You also have to make sure that they do not dig under the fence and escape from the yard or escape from one side of the yard to the other. If there were baths done that day the grooming area must be cleaned up. crates must be cleaned after each dog leaves before new dogs go in. Every weekend the suites get the royal cleaning treatment. Weekends are really all about cleaning. On the weekends cleaning that we dont' have time to do during the week gets done.
Grooming is another regular occurence. Owners can request baths for the dogs before they leave. This is usually done either the night before if the dog is getting picked up in the morning. Or the morning of the day they are getting picked up if they are getting picked up later in the day. The dogs that have had baths cannot go outside afterwards and must be leash walked at the end of the day in order to do their business. You also must make/cancel reservations. check dogs in/out. schedule baths. and work the cash register. The above parts are done on computer. You are also responsible for letting the owners know when there vaccinations are expired or are about to expire. it is important to inquire how much food to give the dog a day and how many times a day. Meds must also be given as often as the owner specifies. So that is typically what happens in a day at camp canine doggy day care. As you can see it is a lot. Some days more than others. But it is a very rewarding job and i love it!
