Another day at work for a Sales Associate

Company or Industry: Wal*Mart Supercenter
Salary:

Well, for one, my work times for this week is well... a little odd. I usually close for the night. That means I stay until 11p.m. Of course, I come in at 4p.m. This week my hours were:

Mon: Off
Tues: Off
Wed: 12:30 - 8
Thurs: 1 - 8
Fri: 3 - 10
Sat: 4 -11
Sun: 4 - 11

Why it is like that, I don't know. Anyway, today was an odd day. When I first got there, I had to find the cart in which has a built on ladder so I don't have to drag around a little ladder where ever I go.

I work in the Shoe deparment in the store. However, I often get sent off to other parts of the store as well. I have knowledge of serveral different departments in the store. They include:

Boys-ware
Girls-ware
Ladies-ware
Mens-ware
Toys
Infants
Fitting room/Operator(I answer the phone. Not as easy as it seems.)

I am not upset about the fact that I get sent to other departments. In fact, it is a very good thing. It gives me the chance to explore other areas in the store. Which, in turn, makes me a very useful employee.

Today, I was avoiding one of the managers that is over my department. Usually, whenever she sees me, she will give me something to do that has nothing to do with my department at all. 9 times out of 10, I am the one that she always calls for when she happens to see me in the building.

So, my friends always laugh at me when I tell them that I am hiding from her until she leaves. Which I am not the only one that hides from her. They do as well. She is one of the managers that points out things you already know you have to do. Like, "Put things up off the floor." Yes, we know that. That is why we are out there.

Anyway, I will start with the customers today. They were demanding. Why are people so different when they enter a store? Do they leave their manners at home for this trip?

Well, I had a woman ask me if we had a certain shoe in. She had two daughters with her that were currently grabbing every shoe on the size run and putting them on. Whether they were too small or too big.

I told the woman that I had just come from the backroom and I knew that there was none in at the moment. They may come in sometime soon and to try back with us at a later time.

Yet, she still kept asking me, "Are you sure? Can you go back and check? What about this one? Is this it? What is on the other side? Can you walk me over there and look?"

I was clearly getting a little... upset. However, I couldn't say anything to upset her. If I did, I would be breaking one of our rules. Listen to the customer.

Well, this went on for another 5 minutes or so until she understood that I had nothing that looked like the shoe she wanted. However, after they rounded the coner, I took a big breath and closed my eyes. Hoping that when I opened them, the shoes the girls were playing with wouldn't be all over the floor.

Of course, there they were. Many different shoes all in the floor. Mind you the mother helped them pick shoes out for them to try on while she and I 'chatted.'

Long story short... I am extremely happy to be at home right now.
