I'm a consultant with a marketing background. I've been working for this company for about 5 months now. My job is to travel and visit clients, do a pitch for our products, then try to convince clients to either buy the products / renew their existing licenses or sign on for technical consulting (pay more money for technical services by the hour).
4:30 am I wake up in a Holiday Inn, quickly shower and get ready for my 8 am flight.
6:00 am I'm at the airport, just got a muffin and an extra large coffee for breakfast. Need to check emails and update the latest sales presentation with some new points as well as a couple product feature my director wants me to add in.
8:00 am Boarding the plane. This is a three hour flight, it gives me plenty of time to prepare for my sales pitch. I'm meeting up with a technical consultant at the client site, I will be responsible for most of the marketing talk, the technical person does all the demo, the nitty gritty nerdy stuff.
12:00 pm I'm on my way in the taxi. After landing, I have called and confirmed our afternoon presentation time. All the materials have been finalized. I'm making a couple additional phone calls. One back to the headquarter office and another one to my boss to update him on my status.
1:30 pm I'm here. Going to the bathroom first to make sure I look all spiffy. (Even though only got 4 hours of sleep last night but the most important in this consulting biz is to always look sharp! NO SLEEP? NO PROBLEMS!?)
2:00 pm We walk into the conference room. I shake hands with the five executives in the room; introduces myself and my co-worker.
2:10 pm - 4:00 pm I kicked off the presentation with a case study, by leveraging some key revenue figures, I seemed to have gotten the attention of the big client boss here. (Yes, telling them they can increase their profit by 50% always tend to grab their attention quickly) Then I went through the rest of the presentation, passed it onto the other consultant to do the demo part. The clients asked some questions, good thing, it's always a good thing when they have questions, shows you that they are interested.
4:30 pm I say my goodbyes. I think I did a good job (definitely deserve a bonus on this one). I call my boss on the way back to the airport, told him the clients look impressed and are definitely considering our bid. (some very optimistic news)
6:00 pm I'm back at the airport. Thank god tomorrow is Saturday. I bought a sandwich from the airport cafe. It's been a busy day...but I like the stress. It's fun!
